D’origine française, Anne-Claire Vimal du
Monteil étudie le cinéma et l’histoire de l’art à la Sorbonne. De 1998 à 2005,
elle travaille dans le milieu culturel, notamment au Musée d’Orsay et au cinéma
d'Art et d'Essai L’Archipel, à Paris.
Elle se tourne ensuite vers la photographie et devient photographe et retoucheuse high-end, avant de s’installer à Montréal en 2009. À partir de 2016, elle développe une démarche plus artistique dans son travail photographique. En parallèle, elle suit une formation en compositing au NAD en 2020, ce qui la conduit à travailler dans le domaine des effets visuels (VFX) pour le cinéma et la télévision.
Sa pratique photographique s’apparente à une réécriture du réel, à travers une poésie des formes et des couleurs. Partant de matériaux ancrés dans le réel, elle les transforme ou les déforme pour aboutir à une œuvre visuelle où l’onirisme, le symbolisme et l’imaginaire prennent le dessus.
Son approche est éclectique, nourrie par une passion pour la philosophie, le cinéma et les beaux-arts, qui influencent profondément ses recherches. Bien que son travail emprunte des formes variées, certains thèmes, techniques et questionnements reviennent de manière récurrente.
Ses séries narratives, souvent mises en scène de façon symbolique, explorent des thématiques psychologiques et philosophiques liées à la quête de soi. Sur le plan esthétique, elle s’intéresse particulièrement à la déformation des formes et à la poésie du flou — une manière d’interroger la perception du réel et l’existence ou l’absence de vérités fondamentales.
Les genres qui l’inspirent le plus sont le portrait, la nature morte, ainsi que le paysage, qu’il soit urbain ou naturel.
Elle reçoit plusieurs prix et récompenses internationales, notamment en 2021 au concours Life Framer pour lequel elle obtient le premier prix de l’open call.
Elle fait partie du RAAV (Regroupement des Artistes en Arts Visuels du Québec) depuis 2022.
Certaines de ses oeuvres sont exposées et vendues dans la galerie virtuelle montréalaise Grizzly Montréal depuis 2022.
Elle fait partie du collectif Montreal Lens collective depuis 2025.
